The year 2003 has many changes in store for the JREN. The majority of them come about as a result of the co-sponsorship with the International Society on Renal Nutrition & Metabolism. This plan should be in effect by Spring/Summer, 2003. The Editorial Office will be undergoing change. We are going to experiment with the concept of a PhD, RD/MD co-editorship. The PhD/RD will be U.S.A. based, and the MD will be International. The address and contact information of the Editorial Office will remain unchanged. The main beneficial components of this new structure will be to: expand international participation in manuscript reviews, increase the flow of research papers, increase the JREN readership, and diversify the JREN with encouragement of manuscript submission and review by renal professionals around the globe, working in the area of renal nutrition science and dietetics.
We plan to have a modified Editorial Board and a somewhat revitalized front cover, not that the JREN is not good as it stands today. The interest is to pursue the full potential of the JREN as the title implies, to be the journal that most accurately reflects the state-of-the-art in the field of renal nutrition. These first set of changes are likely only the beginning. The JREN will not fear change and will evolve and remain dynamic as the times and needs of the field might demand. On the contrary, if one format is found to be the classic one, so be it.
This Spring, we will be introducing the new JREN as a co-sponsored publication. The proceedings from the 11th International Society on Nutrition & Metabolism in Renal Disease will be the opening door to this new time and effort. These selected Proceedings will be circulated as a supplement or special issue within a few months. Please look out for them. As a reader, keep in touch with the JREN, preferably via manuscript submissions!
We are interested to receive submissions to the Product Update section and hope that our renal dietitian readers will respond to this outreach. The recent JREN readership survey indicates that the renal dietitian reader is most interested for the JREN to contain practical information that can be applied in the clinical setting. We, therefore, will be enhancing our Patient Education section to be expanded to include on the JREN website, an international diet education materials for use by the professional, for the renal patient. If you are interested in participating in the development of this feature, please contact the Editorial Office.
Happy New Year to the JREN and its readership. 2003 is going to be a special year.
