Happy Holidays

Happy Fall everyone. As our weather cools and we gear up for the holidays, I would like to take a moment to update everyone on the work of the Council on Renal Nutrition (CRN) Executive Committee (EC) over the past summer. Each year, prior to the National Kidney Foundations Spring Clinical Meeting, CRN presents two preconference programs, strategies I and II. Strategy I is aimed at new renal dietitians and presents an overview of current practice in renal nutrition. Some years ago, CRN responded to a request from our members, for a more in-depth program dealing with more controversial issues that impact the nutrition health of people with chronic kidney disease. CRN responded with strategy II, a program aimed at the more experienced nutrition practitioner. Both these preconference programs have proved to be very popular. Janelle Gonyea, MS, RD, has been the Course Director for strategy I for the past 3 years and will continue in this position through the Spring Clinical Meeting 2018. Kathy Schiro Harvey, MS, RD, was Course Director for strategy II for the prior 4 years and her term as Course Director has now concluded. Kathy did an exceptional job, and we are very grateful for her outstanding programs and her dedication to renal nutrition. The EC was tasked this summer for finding a new Course Director for strategy II. We had several excellent candidates, and it was a difficult choice. I am pleased to announce that Victor Yu, PhD, MPH, RD, has accepted this position. Victor has a diverse background which includes experience in renal nutrition, school nutrition, diabetes education, and website design.
